The Greek Community of Vienna, 300 Years of Presence
Event dedicated to the Greeks in Vienna, organized in cooperation with the association “Hellenic Roots”…
Vienna’s geographical position allowed the city to develop politically, economically and culturally as the capital of the Habsburg Empire. This environment was particularly favorable for the Greek merchants and enlightened people who later become important economic and cultural agents in the empire. Until nowadays, the activities of members of the Greek Diaspora in Vienna continue intensively in areas such as entrepreneurship, politics and science.
Speaking about these activities and the development of the Greek Community will be:
Dr. Ikaros Mantouvalos, Lecturer of Modern Greek Social History in the Democritus University of Thrace and researcher of the history of the Greek communities in Central Europe, Dr. Vasilis Bellios, Athens and Vienna University Doctor and Dr. Nikitas Simos, member of the “Hellenic Roots” Board of Directors. The event also features screening of the documentary by Fotis Constantinidis entitled “Nikolaos Dumbas (1830 - 1900), Patron of Arts” and music program by the maestro Dimitris Arapis.
Her Excellency the Ambassador of Austria in Greece, Ms. Melitta Schubert will address the audience and the President of the association “Hellenic Roots”, Mr.Vasilis Dovas will preface the event.
