Literary Translation Prizes 2014
The Goethe-Institut Athen, the Hellenic American Union, the Instituto Cervantes de Atenas and the Danish Institute in Athens, organize the Literary Translation Prizes...
In the framework of their mission to foster cross-cultural understanding and encourage international cultural exchange, the four cultural institutes continue their joint support of the Literary Translation Prizes and the work of Greek translators. The 2014 Literary Translation Prizes will be awarded to four translators for the best translation into Greek from German, English, Spanish, and Danish respectively. Each winner will receive a cash prize.
The English-language Literary Translation Prizes shortlist for 2014 is:
- Vassilis Athanasiadis for: A Winter Walk, The Maine Woods, A Week on the Concord & Merrimack Rivers, Journal by Henry David Thoreau (Kedros)
- Dimitris Athinakis for: The Water Cure by Percival Everett (Polis)
- Athina Dimitriadou for: The Lighthouse by Alison Moore (Ikaros)
The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at 19:00 at Goethe-Institut Athen, on the occasion of International Translation Day.
Aa part of the ceremony, a panel discussion entitled: “The future and potential of literary translation” will take place as part of the ceremony. The discussion, which will be moderated by Manolis Biblis, journalist and editor in chief of Bibliodromio at “Ta Nea” newspaper, will feature: Antigoni Chatziandreou (Odysseas Publishers), Maria Papageorgiou (“Epi lexei” Bookshop) and Giannis Kalifatidis (translator).
