Presentation of tribute book to Tassos Chalkias
Presentation of Anna I. Stergiou’s book “Tassos Chalkias: The Breath of God”, published by Michalis Sideris Books…
One of the most prominent clarinet masters and a mainstay of Greek musical tradition, Tassos Chalkias contributed to the preservation and dissemination of traditional music for six decades. In her book "The Breath of God," Anna I. Stergiou attempts to capture the music, career, commanding personality and imposing presence of the eminent Epirote clarinetist who left his mark on the music scene of Greece and beyond. The writer taps into, and makes the best possible use of, all available sources about the artist and musician Tassos Chalkias. One such source, who offered his invaluable assistance to her venture, was, of course, the composer's son, Lakis, himself a renowned folk and traditional singer.
Speaking about the book will be: Chris Spirou (President of the Hellenic American Union), Andreas Zeakis-Glynias (Professor of Classical & European Music, Teacher of Byzantine Music & author of textbooks), Anna I. Stergiou (the book's author and journalist for "Eleftherotypia" newspaper) and Lakis Chalkias (singer).
Actor, songwriter, musician and radio producer Giannis Tzouanopoulos will be reciting.
The presentation will be followed by a brief music performance featuring soloists Thanassis Vassilopoulos (clarinet) and Hellas Chalkia (flute).
