Presentation of the book "Achartografita Revmata" (Uncharted Currents) by Tassos Biris and Stelios Giamarelos, in collaboration with the Hellenic American College and Melani Books...
The book Achartografita Revmata (Uncharted Currents) is a discourse on Architecture, on teaching it and on the Modern-Postmodern dipole that prevailed in the National Technical University of Athens School of Architecture from 1974 through 2000. The discourse between Tassos Biris and Stelios Giamarelos is not merely one more discussion among the many that usually stick to the level of broad generalizations and abstract ideological debates on architecture and the teaching of it. In the course of this particular discourse, the interlocutors are constantly seeking out two-sided milestones and uncharted subterranean currents between two generations: from the end of the pre-dictatorship "Spring" of Greek Modernism of the 1960s and the early stages of Tassos Biris's academic career as unpaid teaching assistant to Ioannis Despotopoulos, to the post-dictatorship introduction of, first, postmodern and, then, neomodern trends of the 1980s and 1990s and the adoption of the School of Architecture's New Curriculum under the deanship of Nikos Kalogeras.
The book will be presented by: Konstantinos Dekavalas (Architect, Adjunct Professor at the NTUA School of Architecture), Manos Stefanidis (Art Historian, Associate Professor of Theatre Studies at the University of Athens), Panos Tsakopoulos, (Architect), Kostas Gizelis (Architect), Dimitra Vogiatzaki (Architect, graduate student at the NTUA School of Architecture)
