The Exotic Element in the 20th Century Piano Music
Lecture in English by pianist, Alexandra Papastefanou, and concert with works for piano by contemporary composers...
In her lecture entitled Rain Tree: The Exotic Element in 20th Century Piano Music, Alexandra Papastefanou traces that charm of the exotic that is found in piano works of 20th century composers who were influenced by musical idioms of “distant” foreign civilizations. It is a contradictory, charming, sometimes provocative and deeply inspired musical language at the service of an imaginary world.
A concert follows with works scored for piano by composers: Béla Bartók, Chick Corea, Claude Debussy, Vangelis Katsoulis, Pericles Koukos, Olivier Messiaen, Yiannis Α. Papaioannou, Sergei Prokofiev, Maurice Ravel, Igor Stravinsky, and Toru Takemitsu.
