Young Learners & Adolescents ∙ Exam Prep Courses
This course aims at the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The course includes reading, writing, listening and speaking components that draw on new trends in educational technology and language teaching.
At this level, students are typically expected to be able to:
- understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and find both the implicit meaning and subtle conceptual nuances,
- summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a presentation with cohesion and coherence,
- express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions,
This course provides practice in reading, listening, writing, speaking, grammar and vocabulary.
- The reading component typically consists of longer, adapted and authentic, texts as included in the selected textbooks used or in the additional teaching material designed by the Academic Team specifically for the needs of the course. Some of the topics covered include the environment, technology, science, society and civilization, art, culture, etc.
- The listening component typically consists of listening to a variety of TV/radio interviews, commentaries, conversations, lectures, and technical or scientific analyses, etc.
- The writing component consists of writing descriptive and opinion essays, articles, proposals, etc.
- The speaking component typically consists of intonation and pronunciation practice, discussing topics, describing events, role-playing, dialogues, giving both sides of an argument, reaching a consensus, etc. Students will also practice on exam-type speaking activities found in exams of this level.
- The grammar component typically consists of the complete verb system and its subcases, inversion, the use of gerunds/infinitives, causative, conditionals and wishes, etc.
- The vocabulary component typically consists of synonyms-antonyms, word building, expressions, idioms, proverbs, collocations, dependent prepositions, subtle conceptual nuances and variations, euphemisms and sophisticated vocabulary associated with the topics under discussion, etc.
