Visit at the Town Hall and meeting with the Mayor of Athens
The EcoFans visited the Town Hall at Kotzia Square and met with the Mayor of Athens, Nikitas Kaklamanis.
On Saturday, April 24, the EcoFans Club visited the Town Hall at Kotzia Square and met with the Mayor of Athens, Nikitas Kaklamanis. The meeting with the Mayor came as a result of the activities and events organized by the EcoFans Club during the current academic year under the general theme of Monuments and Natural Surroundings. The purpose of this meeting was for the children to communicate directly to the Mayor everything they had observed and recorded during the year’s events and, thus,
demonstrate in practice their role as responsible citizens with the ability to express and support their viewpoints. During the visit the children had the opportunity to discuss
with the Mayor the events they participated in (Acropolis-following the paths of Pikionis, Acropolis – the ancient Peripatos, the Kifisos documentary and the National Garden). The Mayor listened to everything the children had to say on the condition of the monuments, the surrounding vegetation, vehicle noise and interference, as well as everything they had found interesting and exciting. The overall purpose was for the EcoFans views on the environment to be heard so that a further step was taken towards
“changing the neighborhood before changing the world”. During the visit there was a very interesting discussion between the children and the Deputy Mayor for Waste Management and Environment, George Dimopoulos, about specific neighborhoods in Athens and how they should be protected. The visit concluded with a tour of the Town Hall’s facilities and some areas of the building not open to the public.
