Hellenic American University

The Hellenic American University was founded and authorized as a degree-granting institution in the United States by an Act of the New Hampshire Legislature. Its degree programs are approved, supervised, and evaluated by the New Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission (NHPEC).

The Hellenic American University Office for Language Assessment and Test Development develops seven language tests, the BCCE™, the ABLE B2, the ALCE C1-C2, and STYLE 1-4, and one professional certification test, the ETECT.


bcce-(1).jpgThe BCCE™ provides recognized certification that the holder can communicate at a basic level in English. It is ideally suited for adolescents and adults who wish to demonstrate that they can successfully manage essential communicative tasks in the English language but who are not yet ready for an intermediate-level language examination. The BCCE™ is linked to the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) scale.

able-b2.jpgThe ABLE B2 is a standardized examination designed for candidates who wish to obtain certification of their competency in English as a second or other language at an intermediate level. The ABLE B2 examination is developed and scored in accordance with best practices in language assessment. All parts of the examination are written following specific guidelines and test specification. Items are pretested to ensure the validity and reliability of the examination. Care is taken that the tests are fair and accessible to all candidates. ABLE B2 is aimed at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) scale.

alce.jpgThe ALCE C1-C2 provides recognized certification that the holder can communicate at an advanced or proficient level in English either in a professional or academic environment. ALCE C1-C2 is appropriate for candidates who need certification of advanced or proficient-level competency in English for career advancement or to study in an English speaking college or university. The ALCE C1-C2 is linked to the C1- C2 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) scale.

style.jpgThe School Tests for Young Learners of English (STYLE) are designed for young learners aged 7-12 who would like an objective assessment of their competency in English as a second or other language at the elementary level. Τhe STYLE are aimed at the A1 and A2 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

etect.jpgThe ETECT is a standardized examination for novice and more experienced Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Successful ETECT candidates are awarded a certificate accredited through the Hellenic Accreditation System (ΕΣΥΔ).
