Hellenic American University

The Hellenic American University was founded and authorized as a degree-granting institution in the United States by an Act of the New Hampshire Legislature. Its degree programs are approved, supervised, and evaluated by the New Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission (NHPEC).

The Hellenic American University Office for Language Assessment and Test Development develops two language tests, the BCCE™ and the ALCE™, and one professional certification test, the ETECT.


Hellenic American University Certificates

School Test for Young Learners of English (STYLE) Level 1

STYLE Level 1 is designed for young learners who would like an objective assessment of their competency in English as a second or other language at the beginners’ level. STYLE 1 is linked to the A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and is designed to be a motivating, candidate-friendly test for young learners aged 7-11.

School Test for Young Learners of English (STYLE) Level 2

STYLE Level 2 is designed for young learners who would like an objective assessment of their competency in English as a second or other language at the elementary level. STYLE is linked to the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and is designed to be a motivating, candidate-friendly test for young learners aged 7-11.

Basic Communication Certificate in English (BCCE)

The BCCE™ provides recognized certification that the holder can communicate at a basic level in English. It is ideally suited for adolescents and adults who wish to demonstrate that they can successfully manage essential communicative tasks in the English language but who are not yet ready for an intermediate-level language examination. The BCCE™ is linked to the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) scale.

Advanced Level Certificate in English (ALCE)

The ALCE™ provides recognized certification that the holder can communicate at an advanced level in English either in a professional or academic environment. ALCE™ is appropriate for candidates who need certification of advanced-level competency in English for career advancement or to study in an English speaking college or university. The ALCE™ is linked to the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) scale.

Τhe English Teaching Competency Test (ETECT)

The ETECT is a standardized examination for novice and more experienced Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Successful ETECT candidates are awarded a certificate accredited through the Hellenic Accreditation System (ΕΣΥΔ).
