TOEFL® Results and Score Reports
TOEFL iΒΤ® results are available online at the official ETS® website, approximately 10 days after the test date. TOEFL iΒΤ® certification is valid for two years; after two years' time, retaking the test may be necessary. The Hellenic American Union does not have access to, does not make public, and does not maintain any record of the candidates’ results. Candidates should address any requests to the ETS®.
TOEFL® Junior™ results are available according to the TOEFL® junior™ January-December 2016 Results Announcement. Individual score reports for each candidate are sent to Language Schools the day after the announcement of the results.
TOEFL® ITP scores are valid for two years. Because language proficiency can change considerably in a relatively short period of time, scores more than two years old cannot be reported or verified. If a test taker took the TOEFL® ITP test more than two years ago and needs to submit scores to an agency or institution, he or she must take the test again to have scores reported.
Scores are solely for the internal use of the institution administering the test. They should not be used as substitutes for actual TOEFL® test scores and are not sent to other institutions. More information on the TOEFL® ITP results is available via the Center for Examinations and Certifications ETS Office.
TOEFL iΒΤ® Scoring
Scores are based on the candidate’s performance on the questions in the test. Candidates must answer at least one question each in the Reading and Listening sections, write at least one essay, and complete at least one Speaking task to receive an official score. Candidates receive four scaled section scores and a total score.
There is no passing or failing TOEFL® score; individual higher education institutions and agencies set their own score requirements.
TOEFL® Junior™ Scoring
Scores are determined by the number of questions a student has answered correctly. There is no penalty for wrong answers. The number of correct responses on each section is converted to a scaled number that ranges from 200 to 300 points. The total score is a sum of the three section scores, and, therefore, ranges from 600 to 900 points.
|Language Form and Meaning||200-300|
Educational Testing Service® (ETS®) test scores are mapped to the levels of the Common European framework of References for Languages (CEFR) as follows:
|Sections||CEFR level A2||CEFR level B1||CEFR level B2|
|Language Form and Meaning||210–245||250–275||280–300|
TOEFL® ITP Scoring
After administration by the institution, tests are scored locally and reported to the institution by total and section scores. Segmenting the scores provides greater insight into which specific skills need improvement and enables teachers to tailor their instruction accordingly. Scores are returned quickly, usually within 7 days of receipt of the answer sheets.
Score reports include individual information for the institution to distribute to students, and institutional information and a score roster for internal use only.
- All TOEFL iΒΤ® rescoring requests are handled directly by ETS®. For further information you can visit the ETS® Official website.
- Due to the purposes of the TOEFL® Junior™ and TOEFL® ITP tests, their results are not rescored. The former is a low stakes examination assisting schools, teachers and parents to track the progress that students are making in the study of English whereas the latter is used by language schools, universities and other organizations to assess the language skills of their students or employees.
TOEFL iΒΤ® official printed score reports are mailed directly to the Universities or Colleges of the candidate’s choice, approximately 13 days after the test date, unless scores have been cancelled on the test day. Candidates should allow 7-10 days after that date for mail delivery in the United States, and more time for mail delivery to other locations.
TOEFL® Junior™ individual score reports for each candidate are sent to Language Schools the day after the announcement of the results. Score reports for individual candidates are sent to the postal address showing on their registration form.
All TOEFL® Junior™ candidates, regardless of their scores, receive a detailed score report. Score reports also provide a description of the English-language abilities typical of test-takers scoring around a particular scaled score level. Levels are mapped onto the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR).
