Words (can) do it: Elytis and the others

Dec 17, 2019

An evening of poetry on the 40th anniversary of the poet’s receipt of the Nobel Prize...

Tribute to Odysseas Elytis at the Hellenic American Union, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the poet’s Nobel Prize win

From early on, Odysseas Elytis (1911-1996) translated, studied, consorted with and, explicitly or implicitly, referred in his poems to a multitude of earlier poets, Greeks and foreigners alike, including Sappho, Romanos, Kalvos, Hölderlin, Rilke, and the French Surrealists.

During the event, contemporary Greek poets will comment on this creative conversation by reading a selection of such poems: Orfeas Apergis, Panayotis Ioannidis, Dimitra Kotoula, Pavlina Marvin, Iana Boukova, Olga Papakosta, Maria Topali and Marios Chatziprokopiou.
