Event dedicated to the important American poet, Bill Knott at the Hellenic American Union

Bill Knott (1940–2014) was born in Carson City, Michigan, and attended graduate school at Norwich University. He issued his first collection of poems, The Naomi Poems: Corpse and Beans, in 1968, under the pen name Saint Geraud. The Naomi Poems was well received and brought him to the attention of such poets as James Wright, who called Knott an “unmistakable genius.” Knott taught at Emerson College for more than 25 years, published many books of poetry, and was awarded the Iowa Poetry Prize and a Guggenheim fellowship.

Eighty one years after his birth,  a selection of Knott’s poems will be heard—for the first time ever—in Greek,  translated by 13 Greek poets.

Invited to read a selection of their translations of Bill Knott’s poems are: Orfeas Apergis, Mary Yossi, Antonia Gounaropoulou, Yiannis Douka, Katerina Iliopoulou, Lefteris Zacharioudakis, Panayotis Ioannidis, Lena Kallergi, Dimitra Kotoula, Stergios Mitas, Artemis Michailidou, Christianna Mygdali, and Kostas Plisiotis.

The original poems will be read by Gregory Barton, Chris Sakellaridis and Stephen Tagle.

The event will premiere on Wednesday April 14, 2021 at 19:30 on the Hellenic American Union YouTube channel,  Facebook page and the You Tube channel of Words (can) do it.
