Exhibition of paintings by Marios Camhis at the Hellenic American Union

The Hellenic American Union and the Hellenic American College (HAEC) in cooperation with the Hellenic American University (Manchester, NH, USA) present an exhibition of paintings by Marios Camhis curated by Louisa Karapidaki.

According to the curator, "The iconography of Marios Camhis is characterized by extraordinary vividness featuring exceptionally detailed references that capture the gaze of the spectators, urging a second reading. Everything is imaginary, yet everything seems experienced and familiar. In his meticulous drawings the artist usually tends to express himself through the display of black-and-white masses, assigning a decisive yet complementary role to color".

On Wednesday, March 1, at 18:30 the exhibition's currator, Louisa Karapidaki offers a guided tour to the public. Marios Camhis will also be present.

Marios Camhis was born in Athens in 1946. Studied architecture and he obtained his PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He continued his research, in 1978, as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He worked in Athens as a scientific advisor at the Ministry of National Economy, responsible for the National Coastal Management Plan, Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Council of Ministers’ Working Group for the Greek Memorandum. He has been a European Commission official. He taught at the George Mason University in Washington DC, at the University of Thessaly and at the Harokopio University.. His book “Planning Theory and Philosophy” was published in 1979 (Tavistock Publications, London) and “The unification of the European Territory” in 2007 (Kritiki Publications). At the same time, he never gave up painting and has exhibited twice in Athens: “Paintings” at Gallery 3 (Athens, 2001), “The Invisible Cities” at Gallery 24 (Athens, November).
