Poetic encounters: “Words (can) do it”

Jan 24, 2018

Event dedicated to the translated works of Italian, Nobel Prize Laureate poet, Eugenio Montale…

Poetry night dedicated to Eugenio Montale at the Hellenic American Union

Nikos Aliferis started translating the works of the Nobel Prize Laureate, Genoese poet, Eugenio Montale, in the 1990s. He first introduced his translations in the Planodion magazine in 1992 and continued by translating Finisterre and other poems (Agra, 1995), Diario del '72, 1999), Diario del '71 (Agra, 2013), and Peri Piiseos, a collection of essays by Montale, Ungaretti, Quasimodo and Saba (Agra, 2005).

At the event, Nikos Aliferis reads his translations and introduces the audience to the poetic world of Eugenio Montale - a Cavafy enthusiast himself - who contributed decisively to changing the poetic scene of our neighboring country and beyond. The original poems are read by Stefano Bindi.
