Fyodor (Theodoros) Yurchikhin-Grammatikopoulos

The Hellenic American Union, honoring notable Hellenes of the Diaspora, presents an event dedicated to the Greek Russian cosmonaut Fyodor (Theodoros) Yurchikhin-Grammatikopoulos. The event includes a lecture given by the cosmonaut about his experiences in space.  

Born in Batumi, Georgia, in 1959, the cosmonaut of Greek decent on his mother’s (Mikroula Grammatikopoulou-Yurchikhina) side, has so far flown on four spaceflights, performed 8 Extravehicular Activities, and has spent more than 500 days in space.

Recently, Fyodor Yurchikhin returned the Olympic torch from the International Space Station to Sochi, Russia, for the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

His remarkable distinctions include the Hero of the Russian Federation medal, the Order of Friendship medal, and the NASA Space Flight Medal.
