Eckhardt Fuchs is Deputy Director of the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research since 2009 and Professor for History of Education/Comparative Education at the Technical University of Braunschweig since 2011. He is currently President of the International Standing Conference for the History of Education (ISCHE).
In his lecture entitled “Transnational History: Concept, Current Status of Research, Future Challenges”, Eckhardt Fuchs will place emphasis on the development of research in the history of education on the basis of transnational approaches. Transnational history has arrived at the field of history of education. This reflects a paradigmatic shift that historical scholarship that opens new perspectives for research beyond the traditional historical narratives mainly based on the nation state. Professor Fuchs will also discuss the concepts “transnational/international” by looking at their history in different intellectual contexts, their theoretical foundations, and their usage by historians of education. This includes a reflection about the various methods applied to transnational research, and the challenges the “transnational” concept poses on the field of history of education.
The Greek Society of Education Historians (GSEH) was founded in 2001 and since then works actively to achieve its scientific objectives. The GSEH has already 180 members and a network that expands all over Greece. Its members, which come from all Greek Universities, are mainly academicians as well as researchers and professors with publications in the field of History of Education. The GSEH is a member of the International Standing Conference for the History of Education. Among the aims of GSEH is the realization of conferences / seminars on the field of History of Education.
The lecture will be delivered in English with simultaneous translation to Greek.
