Young Learners & Adolescents ∙ Core Courses

The course focuses on the acquisition of linguistic elements and structures that fall into the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The course content includes reading, writing, audiovisual, listening and speaking components that draw on new trends in educational technology and language teaching. 

At this level, students are typically expected to be able to:

  • understand written texts and oral conversations on various matters such as school, intercultural values, travel, history, geography etc.,
  • produce texts of various genres to a fair degree of analysis etc.,
  • describe experiences, events and talk about personal plans and issues of wider interest.

This course provides practice in reading, listening, writing, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary:

  • The reading component mainly consists of reading comics, stories, reviews, emails, quizzes, blogs and diaries, articles, etc. 
  • The listening component consists of listening to conversations/dialogues, descriptions, interviews, presentations, etc. 
  • The writing component focuses on writing stories, detailed descriptions, emails, reports, reviews, etc.  
  • The speaking component consists of asking and answering questions and participating in conversations about personal views, experiences and stories, future plans, travelling etc.  
  • The grammar component includes verb tenses (e.g., Present Perfect Simple/Continuous, Past Perfect Simple, Future Simple/Continuous, Be going to), passive voice, modal verbs, conditionals, relative clauses, etc. 
  • The vocabulary includes words associated with the environment, travelling, food, technology, fashion, language, music, art, etc.

Get the Certification

The School Tests for Young Learners of English (STYLE) are designed for young learners aged 7-12 who would like an objective assessment of their competency in English as a second or other language at the elementary level.

STYLE Level 3 is aimed at the A2 level of the CEFR.
