Prerequisites

Το attend this course, students are expected to have completed the Adolescents C course. New students are placed in this course after sitting the Hellenic American Union placement test.

This course aims at the completion of the A2 level and a smooth and progressive introduction into the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The course includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking components that draw on new trends in educational technology and language teaching.

At this level, students are typically expected to be able to:

understand the main ideas and details of texts and oral conversations on both concrete and abstract topics,
produce a relatively detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue,
interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction possible without strain for either party.

This course provides practice in vocabulary, grammar, speaking, listening, reading, writing.

The reading component mainly consists of reading magazine and internet articles/ blogs, biographies, texts on history and science, etc. 
The listening component consists of listening to conversations/dialogues, descriptions, interviews, presentations with native and non-native speakers of English from all over the world, etc. 
The writing component focuses on writing letters and e-mails, descriptive essays, articles, summaries, short narratives, etc.  
The speaking component consists of asking and answering questions and participating in conversations about various topics of personal and general interest, making decisions, expressing preferences and personal views, and describing experiences, future plans, etc.  
The grammar component includes the complete verb system (active and passive voice), conditionals, modal verbs, use of gerunds/infinitives, indirect speech, wishes, etc. 
The vocabulary component includes suffixes, compound adjectives, phrasal verbs, synonyms, and more sophisticated vocabulary associated with the topics under discussion, etc.

The School Tests for Young Learners of English (STYLE) are designed for young learners aged 7-12 who would like an objective assessment of their competency in English as a second or other language at the elementary level.

Level 4 is aimed at the high end of the A2 level of the CEFR.
