1. Should I consider taking an on-line course?

Our on-line courses provide greater convenience and flexibility than traditional courses held in a classroom. If you have a busy work schedule or family commitments, or even if distance is a problem for you, our on-line courses are the ideal solution. However, successful the-learning demands greater maturity on your side as student. You should be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently

2. Are there real-time class sessions that I need to attend?

Most courses are asynchronous, real-time communication and/or attendance is not required. However, some real-time chats or discussions are arranged to enrich learning. It is to your benefit to participate and interact with the instructor and/or other students.

3. Are there any textbooks I need to buy?

No, there is no required textbook to purchase. Reading assignments (presentations, exercises, articles, etc.) are available on-line once you register with a course. You will have the option to either read them on-line, save them on your disc and read them at any time or print them out.

4. How do I receive and hand in my assignments?

Blackboard, the e-learning platform used for on-line courses, provides the tools that enable you to easily submit your assignments, to view, print, or discuss learning material with the instructor and/or other students.

5. Will I receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the on-line course I attend?

Yes. Upon successful completion of the on-line course you attend you will receive a certificate of attendance. This certificate can be mailed to your home or company address.

6. I am interested in one on-line course. What will happen after my enrolment?

Once your registration is confirmed you will receive a user name and a password. You use this user name and password to log in, at http://e-learning.hau.gr

7. Is there any training that helps me learn how to use Blackboard?

No special Blackboard training is required. We will provide you with a brief orientation to the course, explaining how to navigate and locate learning materials, and how to use the different features and tools used in the course.

8. What if I need help later on?

There is ongoing support and help all the way. Once you register you will receive information on the people you can contact for each problem or difficulty you face (course, technical details, procedures, etc)

9. What computer skills do I need to have to take an on-line course?

Basic computer literacy is necessary: You should be able to use the computer independently, to use a word processor to create and save documents, to use e-mail (plus how to attach files), to download files from a Website, to manage files (navigate through files and directories, organize, copy, and paste), and to use the Internet (perform searches, download and upload files.)

10. What are my PC’s requirements to be able to attend an on-line course?

Most modern PCs have already all the necessary hardware pre-installed. However, if you need to check your PC’s compatibility, the minimum hardware requirements are:

a. Web browser such as Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox, or Safari
b. 900Mhz Intel Pentium III processor or equivalent
c. 256MB or more of RAM if using Windows 2000 or XP
d. Hard Drive disk space. (The disk space is for downloading articles and installing required plug-in software.)
e. Monitor with 800 x 600 screen resolution/256 color
f. Sound card and speakers
g. Printer (optional) – If you wish to print on-line resources you will need a printer

11. Do I need any special software?

No, what you need is Microsoft office, it is used heavily for the materials (i.e. word, excel, PowerPoint). If you don’t have Acrobat Reader and Java already installed in your PC you will need to download them for free. (Specific details are provided once your registration is confirmed).
