Writing with colours
The tribute to Armenian-American writer William Saroyan, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his death, continues with a lecture by visual artist Dimitris Zouroudis...
In cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Athens and the Hellenic-Armenian Studies Center, we are pleased to present a lecture entitled “Writing with colours: William Saroyan through his drawings”.
Apart from his work as a writer, Saroyan also left behind a number of drawings. In his lecture, Dimitris Zouroudis, visual artist and Adjunct Professor of Painting at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki will use these drawings as an alternative way –alongside his books- of understanding and interpreting the person and creator William Saroyan. He will speak about the written word as image and manuscripts as visual information, and relate written language to contemporary visual perception. He will then focus on the writer’s visual idiom to analyse the starting point of Saroyan’s self-expression.
