Across - The passage across
Visual arts exhibit by Mary Christea, curated by Maria Maragou…
Across, the artist’s most recent project, is a three-module installation including paintings, projections and sound, signifying the passage across. In Mary Christea’s work, concepts such as redefinition, knowledge, thought, responsibility, are revisited for reexamination and rethinking. Time dilates, it is experienced differently, and the past coexists with the present and the future, revealing the way in which powerful structures and circumstances interact and shape the human being.
Mary Christea was born in Athens. She trained at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin (1968-1975). She has staged eight individual shows of her work and has participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Greece and abroad. She is a member of the visual arts group Indoors Plus. Her work includes paintings, video, constructions, photography, and presentation of her work is usually in the form of installations. Several of the artist’s works can be found at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, the American College of Greece and in private collections.
