Hellenic Photography and Photography in Greece
Nefeli Publishing, with the support of the Hellenic American Union, present an anthology of texts on Hellenic photography edited by Hercules Papaioannou, in an event organized as part of the Athens Photo Festival…
The anthology is an attempt to highlight the context of speaking about Greek photography. It’s a compilation of texts and essays by researchers, curators and theoreticians including Costis Antoniadis, Nina Kassianou, Fani Konstantinou, Kostis Liontis, Alexandra Moschovi, Eirini Boudouri, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Hercules Papaioannou, Penelope Petsini, Platon Rivellis and Yannis Stathatos. Its composition answers to the need to address questions such as: Is the photograph an image one must create and consume without thinking about or discussing it? Can the history and aesthetics that trigger its creation and influence public reception be ignored? Does photography function in a social and ideological gap?
Speaking at the book presentation will be:
Costis Antoniadis, photographer, exhibition curator
Spyros Giannaras, journalist, author
Penelope Petsini, photography theoretician, exhibition curator
Hercules Papaioannou, curator of the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography
An open discussion will follow.
