Marc Depaepe

In his lecture entitled “More than an antidote against amnesia…Some historiographical, theoretical and methodological reflections on the History of Education”, Marc Depaepe will place emphasis on the “historicity” of the history of education. According to his opinion, a critical understanding of history is still –and will remain– indispensable in recognising the nature, identity, and intellectual foundations of all pedagogical activities.

Marc Depaepe, is since 2013 deputy chancellor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He is co-editor-in-chief of Paedagogica Historica, since 2005, and member of several editorial boards of national journals in the history of education. He has been former President of International Standing Conference for the History of Education and the Belgian Dutch Society for the History of Education and former vice-president of Internationale Gesellschaft für Historische und Systematische Schulbuchforschung. He has published 17 books and more than 200 articles on the history of education in general. His selected readings were published in 2012 by Leuven University Press as: Between Educationalization and Appropriation.

The Greek Society of Education Historians (GSEH) was founded in 2001 and since then works actively to achieve its scientific objectives. The GSEH has already 156 members and a network that expands all over Greece. Its members, which come from all Greek Universities, are mainly academicians as well as researchers and professors with publications in the field of History of Education. The GSEH is a member of the International Standing Conference for the History of Education. Among the aims of GSEH is the realization of conferences / seminars on the field of History of Education.
