Poetry event dedicated to Zoe Karelli at the Hellenic American Union

Zoe Karelli (1901-1998) made her first appearance in Greek literature in 1935 and published her first poetry collection, Poreia, in 1940. She is known to the general public for her poem bearing the difficult-to-translate ​​title "Í Ánthropos" or for the characteristic, provoking use of roses as Proto-Feminist and Christian metaphysical symbols in her poetry. In total, she published twelve poetry collections, five plays and many essays. During her long presence in the intellectual life of the country, she was honored with several poetry awards, was named member of the Academy of Athens in 1982 and an Honorary Professor of the School of Philosophy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in 1988.

For the event, fourteen contemporary poets choose, read and comment on poems by Zoe Karelli: Alecos Lountzis, Alexandra Plastira, Anna Griva, Yorgos Spanos, Dimitra Kotoula, Theoni Kotini, Lena Kallergi, Mary Yossi, Maria Topali, Olga Papakosta, Orfeas Apergis, Panayotis Ioannidis, Pavlina Marvin, Christos Siorikis.
