Prints in ″First Edition″

Jun 3, 2009 - Jun 30, 2009

Exhibition of prints from the collection of the Angelos and Leto Catacouzinos Foundation as part of the Athens Print Fest ″First Edition″...

Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas, The triumph of demoticism, 1939

The collection of etchings of the Catacouzinos Foundation is being exhibited for the first time publicly. The collection includes works by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas, Spyros Vassiliou, Yannis Tsarouchis, Giorgos Demos and others.

The prints on exhibition were mainly presents by the artists to the Catacouzinos couple, whose house was a well-known literary salon in the period between the Wars. At the same time they bear witness to the relations developed between important intellectuals and artists of their time.

With this exhibition the Hellenic American Union honors Angelos Catacouzinos. An eminent neurologist and psychiatrist, Catacouzinos was a founding member and President of the Hellenic American Union from 1967 till 1975.

Art historian and curator Iris Kritikou has curated the exhibition, which has been organized in cooperation with the Angelos and Leto Catacouzinos Foundation.

The educational exhibition on the art of etching entitled ″What is a Print ?″ is being presented by Alpha Bank in the Kennedy Gallery of the Hellenic American Union.

Both exhibitions will be closed on June 8, 2009
