Visit to the Museum of Traditional Music Instruments
On Tuesday, September 29, 2009, the last day of classes for the September intensive term, Intermediate 1 students visited the Museum of Traditional Greek Music Instruments in Plaka.
Students had the opportunity to view the impressive collection of the eminent musicologist Phoebus Anoyanakis, which consists of 1200 instruments from the 18th century onward. The museum, which is located next to the Roman agora, is housed in an old mansion that was built in 1842 by the poet, dramatist, and patriot George Lassanis.
After the museum tour, the students enjoyed coffee and a walk through the quaint, beautiful area of Plaka called Aerides. They all agreed to meet in October for more Modern Greek lessons at the Hellenic American Union.
