Benaki Museum (Pireos Str. building)
Our students visited the Benaki Museum in order to get introduced to different aspects of Greek civilization.
On Thursday, 16 November 2006, students from Advanced I and Intermediate II classes visited the Benaki Museum (Pireos Str. building). They visited Voula Papaioannou's photo exhibition and Piet de Yong's watercolor paintings exhibition from the archaeological sites of Greece.
Voula Papaioannou's exhibition includes photographs of Greece before, during, and after World War II, and landscapes from the Greek countryside.
Piet de Yong's watercolor paintings portray important archaeological sites, such as Knossos and the Ancient Agora, as well as archaeological objects from various excavations.
The students were deeply moved by V. Papaioannou's photos, especially by those from the occupation period in Greece, during the World War II.
After the visit, the students talked in Greek about their impressions on both exhibitions at the Museum's cafeteria.
