The popular comics festival returns this year with a three-day program of events for young and old alike
Comicdom CON Athens returns to downtown Athens for its 16th year with indoor and outdoor activities at the Hellenic American Union and Klafthmonos Square, April 15th to April 17th, 2022.
During the three-day event, the Hellenic American Union will host the International and Greek Exhibitions of the Festival. The main international exhibition "The Legend of Wonder Woman", celebrates the 80th anniversary of DC Comics’ iconic amazon, presented in collaboration with the Cartoon Art Museum of San Francisco. The Festival's second international exhibition, "Our Stories Carried Us Here" is based on the graphic novel anthology of the same name and features the stories of eleven immigrants and refugees now living in the United States. The exhibition highlights the complex and challenging issues of race, religion, law and social class, educational inequality, displacement and discrimination, mental health, disability and activism. Also, an onsite exhibition of work by this year’s featured Greek artist, Konstantinos Sklavenitis, will be presented. A virtual retrospective exhibition of his work will also be available online on the website of the Digital Museum of Comics. In addition, panels, workshops, screenings and events will take place at the HAU, in compliance with the current public health safety capacity rules.
At Klafthmonos Square, in the safety of the outdoor space, comics shops and publishers, along with almost 100 comic book artists, will welcome afficionados of the 9th art with merchandise and long-awaited new -and older- publications.
Among the international guests of this year's event is the Croatian artist Esad Ribić, designer who has worked extensively for Marvel Comics, in titles such as LOKI, SILVER SURFER: REQUIEM, and in the emblematic event SECRET WARS and the series ETERNALS.
A day before the official opening of the Festival, on Thursday, April 14th, 2022, the Greek Comic Awards Ceremony will take place at the Hellenic American Union Theater.
