Series of events dedicated to the relationship between comics and literatureA symposium exploring the evolution of comics in relation to literature, an exhibition tracing the most significant Greek and international comics and graphic novels based on literary works, workshops for all ages, and a bazaar featuring both new and older editions make up the program of this original initiative co-organized by Comicdom and the Hellenic American Union. At the symposium, academics, journalists, comic creators, publishers, and representatives of the Greek comics scene will discuss the long-standing relationship between the two arts. The exhibition follows the development of literary adaptations into comics and graphic novels: from the Classic Illustrated editions and the widely read and translated Comedies of Aristophanes, to the contemporary flourishing of Greek adaptations, including major publishing successes such as Erotokritos, Ayvalik, and The Tiger in the Shop Window. The program also includes open discussions and workshops on the challenges of translating literary works into comics, integrating them into secondary and higher education curricula, a children’s workshop where young participants adapt well-known fairy tales into comic pages, and a bazaar featuring new and older editions from the rich domestic production. The day will conclude at Dave Red Hotel (Veranzerou 25) with a themed Drink & Draw sketch event inspired by LiteraComics, where artists will create live drawings for the audience—marking the first such event since the pandemic. LiteraComics is organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, under the program “Grants for projects and initiatives related to Books, Literature, and the Promotion of Reading.” All activities are free of charge.
