Presentation

Hellenic American Union Theater

Nikos I. Michailidis presents his new book at the Hellenic American Union titled "Greco-Turkish Relations and the Constantinopolitan Volunteers in World War II, 1939–1944"

In this book, the author—born in Constantinople—explores the historical trajectory of the Greek community of the city in the post-Lausanne period. The result of nine years of research, the book documents the voluntary contribution of approximately 1,000 Constantinopolitan Greeks during World War II, 200 of whom lost their lives fighting for freedom.

It also presents the events of the years from 1939 to 1944, along with a brief overview of preceding historical developments, with particular emphasis on Greco-Turkish relations during the period and the portrayal of the Greco-Italian War in the Turkish press.
