The Hellenic American Union launches its new film initiative, HAU Movie Club, kicking off with the masterful classic American mystery-comedy by Robert Moore, Murder By Death
This hilarious comedy, written by the award-winning playwright Neil Simon—known for works such as Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple, and Plaza Suite—is a parody of mystery films and novels. Its characters are based on iconic detectives from crime fiction, including Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Charlie Chan, Nick and Nora Charles, and Sam Spade.
The film features an all-star cast, including Oscar winners Maggie Smith, Alec Guinness, David Niven, Oscar nominees Peter Sellers, Peter Falk, Eileen Brennan, and a special appearance by Truman Capote.
The plot follows the classic mystery format: the world’s most famous detectives receive an invitation to dinner at a mansion. The host of the evening (Truman Capote) announces that a murder will occur, and the invited detective-guests must solve the mystery for a prize of one million dollars. Will they manage to solve the crime—and survive themselves?
