Over 140 previously unpublished paintings by Yiannis Metzikof, created over the past three years, are presented at the Galleries of the Hellenic American Union.
Through a vibrant and dynamic kaleidoscope of color and expression, visitors are welcomed by portraits of real or imaginary figures — dancers and performers, visions and dreams — all forming the creative, pictorial, and visionary essence of the multi-talented Metzikof. The exhibition is curated by art historian Iris Kritikou.
As the curator characteristically notes:"Skillfully painted papers with light glossy textures, layered transparencies, and choreographed bursts of bold and exquisite color. Enigmatic faces — whether real or imagined — adorned with mysterious trophies: beaks, hats, veils and feathers, shells, flowers, leaves or birds, fish and butterflies. Firework-like hands. Painterly blotches of ochre and violet — or seeds of a thrilling, disjointed existence springing from an invisible yet parallel universe."
A special limited-edition catalog is published for the exhibition by Mikri Arktos Editions.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of parallel events and guided tours.
