A tribute to the work of Maria Laina through the gaze of contemporary Greek poets
The Hellenic American Union and the poetry meetings series Words (can) do it” present, in the first event of their 14th year, a tribute in memory of Maria Laina (1947–2023) on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 19:30.
Maria Laina authored ten volumes of poetry, as well as plays, prose works, and playful essays of special significance on the subject of poetry. She also compiled an important anthology of 20th-century foreign poetry, selecting from existing translations, and translated foreign prose, essays, and more.
As a poetic homage one year after her passing (December 27, 2023), eleven contemporary poets revisit her poetic work in dialogue with the foreign poems she highlighted and the literary works she translated herself. Participants include Stella Voskaridou, Panagiotis Ioannidis, Dimitra Kationi, Dimitra Kotoula, Pavlina Marvin, Stergios Mitas, Efstathia P. (tria epsilon), Akis Parafelas, Olga Papakosta, Christos Siorikis, and Dimitris Chatzicharalambous.
