As part of the exhibition “I, Andreas Voutsinas,” the historic Greek film "A Dream of Passion" (1978), starring Melina Mercouri, is screened
Based on Minos Volanakis’s contemporary theatrical adaptation of Euripides’ Medea, the film stands as one of the most significant achievements of Greek cinema in the 1970s. Alongside Mercouri, the cast includes Ellen Burstyn, Andreas Voutsinas, Dimitris Papamichael, Giannis Voglis, and Kostas Arzoglou.
Directed by Jules Dassin, the film centers on Melina Mercouri in the role of Maya, an international star who returns to Greece to portray a modern-day Medea. In preparing for the role, she draws inspiration from the story of Brenda Collins, an American woman imprisoned for the murder of her children. Maya approaches her, gradually earning her trust and developing a deep and complex relationship that sheds light on the human psyche and the boundaries of human action—both on and off the stage.
The screening is presented with the support of the Melina Mercouri Foundation. The film will be shown with Greek subtitles.
At 18:00, the exhibition curators Iris Kritikou, Stamatios Gkikas, and Marios-Angelos Voutsinas will lead an open guided tour, inviting the public to become closely acquainted with the work and personality of Andreas Voutsinas.
