Costa Lefkochir, a Belgian visual artist of Greek origin, returns to Greece with the exhibition Letters to El Greco, curated by Louisa Karapidaki
The Hellenic American Union presents the Greek-born artist, who has been living and working in Belgium since 1970, in a solo exhibition at the Kennedy Gallery on Monday, October 20, at 18:00.
As the exhibition’s curator notes: “Faithful to the non-figurative language he has shaped after long aesthetic explorations, Lefkocheir expresses through his compositions philosophical concerns and existential questions. His distinctive pictorial idiom, which seemingly alludes to abstract expressionism, does not rely on spontaneity or chance but, on the contrary, on a meticulously worked pictorial surface and rich conceptual references. […] These compositions engage in a fascinating dialogue with two religious landscapes by El Greco, depicting Mount Sinai, painted during his Venetian period (1568 and 1570).”
