Strolling Through Time: Discovering Hidden Athens

Kolonaki

We have crossed the streets of the city center countless times, often on our way to one of Kolonaki’s most familiar landmarks, our home! Yet, rarely do we pause to truly see the city, to trace the outlines of its quieter corners, those secret places that time has chosen to protect for the attentive and the curious.

Led by Nikos Vatopoulos, journalist, author, and, in the hearts of all Athenians, the city’s finest storyteller, we set out to rediscover what was always there, hiding in plain sight. Starting from our building on Massalias Street, we wandered through Kaplanon and Sina, strolled down Panepistimiou, lingered before the city’s famed architectural trilogy, and made our way back through Charilaou Trikoupi, ascending toward Agios Nikolaos Pefkakion.

The sun accompanied us throughout; gentle, golden and generous. And as the walk came to an end, our gaze on the city had changed: sharper, warmer, more knowing. In our minds echoed once again the words of Kostis Palamas, “Athens, a sapphire stone on the earth’s golden ring…”! Here’s to many more such wanderings where knowledge, memory, and love for the city meet beneath the same Athenian light!
