The second Thinkeroo event of the school year had a Thanksgiving twist! Our students in the Young Learners 1 (YL1) & Young Learners 2 (YL2) weekday classes enjoyed their second book reading οn Thanksgiving.

In their reading circle, YL1 students read the story of Henry Hippo, by Jenny Dooley & Virginia Evans, Express Publishing.* Once upon a time, Henry was having a brilliant day when suddenly, he got stuck in mud. Poor Henry! Henry’s friends, Peter, Millie, and Zara, came to the rescue… They each pulled and pulled and pulled but Herny was stuck. Henry was sad, but the animals had a brilliant idea: they pulled Henry together, until Henry was free at last! The young students learned a valuable lesson through Henry’s story. They found out that when we work as a team, things work like a dream! What is more, they identified the importance of being kind and offering a helping hand, just like Henry’s friends. To put theory into practice, they created their own pot of kindness and filled it with kind thoughts and ideas! Our little readers left the classroom ready to spread kindness all over the world!

YL2 students’ reading circle formed around the book (not the movie!) Finding Dory, by Pearson English Kids Readers*. For those not in the know, Dory is a very special fish because she forgets things quickly. She loves the ocean, but one day she swims far from home. She can’t remember her way home and goes on to have the adventure of a lifetime! As she tries to find her way home, Dory is not alone. She meets a lot of different (and truly magnificent) sea animals along the way, and makes some incredible new friends, including Nemo and his dad, Malvin, and Hank the octopus, who may very well be the smartest octopus to have travelled to California! Well, we don’t want to spoil the story, but at the end, Dory, her parents, and her friends all live happily ever after… In the Thanksgiving spirit of the day, the students reflected on all the important things in life, and the things they are thankful for. Like Dory, they were of course thankful for their family and friends, and for their books, their toys, their PSP, their video games, and for some of the greatest stories of all time, too!
