TOEFL iBT® vs TOEFL ITP®

Even if TOEFL ITP® is an academic assessment that measures the academic English level of students (as the TOEFL iBT® or pBT® does) it should not be used for the same purposes as the official TOEFL® test. TOEFL ITP® scores are for internal-use only and should not be reported to third parties.

TOEFL ITP® scores are valid for two years. Because language proficiency can change considerably in a relatively short period of time, scores more than two years old cannot be reported or verified. If a test taker took the TOEFL ITP® test more than two years ago and needs to submit scores to an agency or institution, he or she must take the test again to have scores reported.

Scores are solely for the internal use of the institution administering the test. They should not be used as substitutes for actual TOEFL® test scores and are not sent to other institutions. More information on the TOEFL ITP® results is available via Hellenic American Union EPN Office of Center for Examinations and Certifications.

Scoring

After administration by the institution, tests are scored locally and reported to the institution by total and section scores. Segmenting the scores provides greater insight into which specific skills need improvement and enables teachers to tailor their instruction accordingly. Scores are returned quickly, usually within 7 days of receipt of the answer sheets.

Score reports include individual information for the institution to distribute to students, and institutional information and a score roster for internal use only.

Rescoring

  • Due to the purposes of the TOEFL ITP® tests, their results are not rescored. The former is a low stakes examination assisting schools, teachers and parents to track the progress that students are making in the study of English whereas the latter is used by language schools, universities and other organizations to assess the language skills of their students or employees.
