TOEFL ITP® is used by language schools, universities and other organizations to assess the language skills of their students or employees.

TOEFL ITP® is used by language schools, universities and other organizations to assess the language skills of their students or employees.

When you need an easy and reliable way to determine the English-language skill level of your students, TOEFL ITP® is the answer.

Designed by the creators of the TOEFL® test. The TOEFL ITP® is a quick way to evaluate:

  • students proficiency
  • the quality of your English-language learning programs

TOEFL ITP® is used for internal purposes to fill the need of language schools, universities, educational organizations and others to administer quality English assessments for the purposes of:

  • Placing students in language classes
  • Measuring student progress
  • Evaluating programs
  • Determining level of faculty or staff proficiency

TOEFL ITP® consists of paper-and-pencil tests

  • is composed of previously administered TOEFL iBT® questions
  • assesses intermediate to advanced knowledge of English
  • is about two hours long
  • evaluates your studentsacademic English skill levels in three areas:
  • Listening Comprehension measures the ability to understand English, including short and long conversations and short talks or lectures.
  • Structure and Written Expression measures the ability to recognize standard written English.
  • Reading Comprehension measures the ability to read and understand short passages at university level

Currently, more than 1,500 institutions worldwide administer TOEFL ITP® and that number continues to grow. Why is this test so popular?

  • Administration is flexible
  • You use your facilities and staff, and set your own test dates and times
  • You can test groups of any size
  • Multiple forms can be used
  • Reliable scores are provided from ETS®, the largest test developer in the world
  • Scores are reported within a short period of time

Even if TOEFL ITP® is an academic assessment that measures the academic English level of students (as the TOEFL iBT® or pBT® does) it should not be used for the same purposes as the official TOEFL® test. TOEFL ITP® scores are for internal-use only and should not be reported to third parties.

TOEFL ITP® scores are valid for two years. Because language proficiency can change considerably in a relatively short period of time, scores more than two years old cannot be reported or verified. If a test taker took the TOEFL ITP® test more than two years ago and needs to submit scores to an agency or institution, he or she must take the test again to have scores reported.

Scores are solely for the internal use of the institution administering the test. They should not be used as substitutes for actual TOEFL® test scores and are not sent to other institutions. More information on the TOEFL ITP® results is available via Hellenic American Union EPN Office of Center for Examinations and Certifications.

After administration by the institution, tests are scored locally and reported to the institution by total and section scores. Segmenting the scores provides greater insight into which specific skills need improvement and enables teachers to tailor their instruction accordingly. Scores are returned quickly, usually within 7 days of receipt of the answer sheets.

Score reports include individual information for the institution to distribute to students, and institutional information and a score roster for internal use only.

  • Due to the purposes of the TOEFL ITP® tests, their results are not rescored. The former is a low stakes examination assisting schools, teachers and parents to track the progress that students are making in the study of English whereas the latter is used by language schools, universities and other organizations to assess the language skills of their students or employees.
