A Chest of Priceless Pearls

Children's Event

Online

Meet children’s book author Jemmy Tassakou as she tells her story of the Asia Minor catastrophe

To celebrate the publication of her new book,  A Chest of Priceless Pearls ,  the Hellenic American Union has invited the author to meet young book lovers online.

During the event, Jemmy Tassakou recounts her story of a little girl called Cleo, who grows up during the time of the events of the Asia Minor Catastrophe. Will she be able to save her grandfather's chest, which hides such treasures as the epics of Homer, Herodotus’s History, and the quotes of Heraclitus? Because, as he used to say, "Houses and fields can be reduced to ruin, but the pearls of wisdom that adorn one’s mind can never be taken away…"

The event takes place online via Zoom and participation is free (with reservations) for all.

A Chest of Priceless Pearls, with illustrations by Rania Varvaki, is published by Metaichmio Publications.

Jemmy Tasakou was born in Athens in 1969. She studied Communication and Mass Media at Panteion University. In 1996 she was awarded a prize for first-time writers for her short story "Dionysis, Dionysus and Daia Electra". In 2002 she was awarded the Women's Literary Society prize for her novel “The Hidden Path” and again in 2003 for her work “The Box with the Immediate Mustard”. In 2006 her fairy tale “The Blonde Maiden’s Wooden Shoes” was included in the list of White Ravens of the International Children's Library of Munich.
