Tribute to the work of Nikos Fokas through the eyes of contemporary Greek poets
The Hellenic American Union and the poetry series “Words (can) do it”, in the second event of their 12th season, present on Wednesday, December 7 at 19:00—one year after his passing—a tribute to the poetic work of Nikos Fokas (1927–2021).
This event marks the 13th “stop” in the revisitation of the modern Greek poetic canon that the series “Words (can) do it” undertakes. Nikos Fokas was a highly original poet, a groundbreaking essayist, and a skilled translator. His poetic work, spanning 15 collections, can be found today in volumes such as Poetic Collections 1954–2000 (2002), Partouza or a Wink (1991), Free Theme (2005), and Short Shadow (2013). Among his numerous translations, notable for both their artistry and critical approach are his editions of poems by Charles Baudelaire and Robert Frost.
The following poets will participate by selecting and commenting on Fokas’s poems: Vasilis Amanatidis, Orfeas Apergis, Eirini Vakalopoulou, Stella Voskaridou, Panagiotis Ioannidis, Korina Kaloudi, Dimitra Kationi, Dimitra Kotoula, Pavlina Marvin, Stergios Mitas, Ifigeneia Doumi, Olga Papakosta, Christos Siorikis, and Marios Chatziprokopiou.
The event will also be broadcast via livestream on the Hellenic American Union website (www.hau.gr
