Legendary Filmmakers – Iconic American Films: Orson Welles

Presentation

Hellenic American Union Theater

The Hellenic American Union presents the 4th event of the series “Legendary Filmmakers – Iconic American Films,” dedicated to Orson Welles

Orson Welles (1915–1985) is considered one of the most important directors in the history not only of American but of world cinema. Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Welles quickly conquered the fields of theatre and radio, and later did the same in cinema, directing in the early 1940s the legendary film Citizen Kane (1941), in which he also stars in the title role. However, with his distinctive and explosive personality, Welles often clashed head-on with the American studio system and led a turbulent life, both professionally and personally.

During the event, scenes from Welles’s films will be screened, followed by a discussion about the director and his work with the audience.

Speakers will include Loukas Katsikas, Artistic Director of the Athens International Film Festival “Premiere Nights” and film critic, and Giannis Zouboulakis, film critic. The discussion will be moderated by journalist and author Makis Provatas.
