Larissa Mea Dulcissima. My Dearest Larissa

Exhibition

-
Hellenic American Union Galleries

The Hellenic American Union, aiming to highlight the country’s cultural heritage, presents in its exhibition spaces the display of relics and historical material "Larissa mea dulcissima. My Dearest Larissa" from the collections of Nikos Papatheodorou. The exhibition was previously shown with great success at the Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa – G. I. Katsigras Museum, curated by art historian Louiza Karapidaki, and served as a milestone in communicating the enduring identity of the city of Larissa to a diverse audience.

The collection of historian and physician Nikolaos Ath. Papatheodorou consists of rare museum artifacts and objects related to the city of Larissa and the Thessaly region. It includes manuscripts, rare books, engravings, postcards, newspapers, magazines, and archival materials, meticulously collected to contribute to a deeper understanding of Thessaly, and especially Larissa, documenting the city’s development from the 16th century to the mid-20th century. To highlight each item of the collection and appeal to audiences of all ages, the exhibition materials have been organized into thematic sections, initially focusing on the city and subsequently on the collector, the collection, and its evolution.

The recent natural disaster that struck Thessaly adds an additional dimension to this exhibition, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the public’s connection in the capital with the cultural achievements of other cities.
