In the Spotlight

Presentation

Hellenic American Union Theater

Andreas Manolikakis presents at the Hellenic American Union his book "In the Spotlight: The Journey to the Legendary Actors Studio and Other Life Stories. Conversations with Natasa Bastea", published by Armos Publications

In "In the Spotlight", Andreas Manolikakis narrates his journey from Athens and the Art Theatre, through Paris and Marcel Marceau’s school, to New York and the Actors Studio, the world’s most influential theatrical institution, among famous teachers and students. He discusses theater, acting, and his experience on Broadway alongside Derek Jacobi, as well as famous students including Bradley Cooper, in conversation with journalist Natasha Bastea. The book tells a story full of unexpected events and hard work. “Despite the title, this book, which narrates his own adventure, is a play between darkness and light—of the stage and of life,” as Natasha Bastea notes in the foreword.

Speakers at the event include actor Giannis Bezos, poet, critic, theater scholar, and translation expert Dr. Konstantinos Bouras, cartoonist Andreas Petroulakis, and the author himself, Andreas Manolikakis. The discussion will be moderated by journalist and author Natasha Bastea.

The author will answer questions from the audience and sign copies of his book.

Andreas Manolikakis is the former Chair (2006–June 2020) of the Actors Studio Drama School (Master of Fine Arts) at Pace University in New York, where he currently continues to serve as a Professor of Acting and Directing, as well as Chair of the Directing Department. He is also a lifelong member of the Actors Studio and a member of its Board of Directors. He has taught acting, directing, and text analysis workshops in New York, Chicago, Berlin, Paris, Bucharest, Sibiu (Romania), Athens, Chania, Nafplio, and Thessaloniki. He translated into Greek the book Vakhtangov: Lessons in Directing and Acting by Nikolai Gorchakov, published in Athens in 1997. As both a director and an actor, Manolakis has worked in the U.S. and Europe, including on Broadway, at the Actors Studio, the National Theatre of Eastern Paris, and elsewhere. He is listed in Marquis Who’s Who for his contributions to arts education.
