Thanassis Hatzopoulos is a poet and translator, as well as a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. Among many other works, he has published fifteen books of poetry, two books on poetics, and three essay collections. He has been honored by the Academy of Athens with the Poetry Award (Petros Charis Foundation, 2013) for his overall contribution; with the Poetry Award of the magazine "O Anagnostis"; and with the Greek State Poetry Award 2022 for the poetry collection Under Construction Flags, among others. Translations of his poems into thirteen languages have also received awards. In 2014, he was awarded by the French Republic the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. In 2024, his book Nominal Value, a collection of essays on translation, was published. In 2025, he was named Honorary Doctor of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) by the Department of French Language and Literature. From the work of Francophone poets, he has translated—among many others—poems and essays by Yves Bonnefoy, René Char, Paul Claudel, Jacques Dupin, Philippe Jaccottet, Pierre-Jean Jouve, Henri Michaux, and Paul Valéry.
