Business English should work on Monday morning.
That’s the philosophy behind the Hellenic American Union Business English courses led by Michael Robbs, one of the most experienced and well known business English mentors in Greece.
Michael’s courses are practical, tailor-made trainings designed around real professional situations and the exact communication challenges each learner faces.
Now, let Michael walk you through how his courses work — and why the real progress happens inside the lesson.
My Methodology: Business English Built Around You
Every Business English course I design starts with one core question: What does this learner actually need English for?
With over 30 years of experience teaching professionals across finance, law, tourism, IT, healthcare, and many other sectors, I have learned that effective Business English training must be flexible, practical, and personalised.
Lessons follow a clear structure but remain adaptable. Each session typically combines:
- targeted vocabulary and functional language,
- controlled practice for accuracy,
- communicative tasks for fluency,
- realistic advice on how to help improve your English,
- and real-world scenarios drawn from the learner’s professional life.
Exercises range from short speaking tasks and email rewrites to simulations of meetings, presentations, and negotiations. Grammar and pronunciation are always taught in context, as tools for clearer communication rather than abstract rules.
Most importantly, the course evolves with the learner. As needs change, the focus of the lessons changes too, ensuring continuous relevance, motivation, and measurable progress.
Practice: Learning by Doing
In my Business English courses, practice is at the heart of every lesson. Sessions are built around real professional situations: meetings, emails, presentations, negotiations, interviews, and difficult workplace conversations.
Rather than following a fixed textbook, I use tailor made material with targeted tasks, guided role-plays, short case scenarios, and focused language drills that reflect how English is actually used in the workplace. Learners actively speak, think, and problem-solve in English from the very first minute, receiving immediate feedback on accuracy, clarity, tone, and impact.
The aim is simple: practical, usable English that participants can apply confidently at work the very same day.
Support: Personalised Coaching for Real-World Challenges
Every professional brings different challenges into the classroom. Some need to sound more confident in meetings, others need precision in emails, clarity in presentations, or fluency under pressure.
My role is not only to teach English, but to support each participant individually.
I adapt lesson content in real time to address the specific communication issues learners face in their own roles, industries, and organisational cultures.
This personalised approach ensures that participants are not learning “general Business English,” but developing the exact language and skills they need to perform more effectively in their own professional environment.
Why the Real Work Happens in the Lesson (Not at Home)
Busy professionals already have demanding schedules. That is why my Business English courses are designed so that the real work happens inside the lesson itself.
Rather than assigning heavy homework, I focus on intensive, high-quality practice during class time. Learners speak, write, and refine their English with immediate guidance and feedback, ensuring that mistakes are addressed before they become bad habits. At the same time, every week I share my ‘top tips’, small pieces of advice that lead to good habits for the learner outside class. As I always say; “Small habits make excellence”.
This approach not only reduces stress but also leads to faster improvement. Learners leave each session clearer, more confident, and better prepared for real professional communication, without feeling that English is an added burden outside their working day.
The result is efficient learning that respects both the learner’s time and professional responsibilities.
