The Canterbury Tales

Oct 6, 2014

Presentation of the book by the British author and philosopher Geoffrey Chaucer, in cooperation with Hellenic American College and Melani Editions…

The Canterbury Tales

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer (1340 -1400), one of the 100 most important books of all time, is translated for the first time in Greek. This is the first major literary work written in common English which highlights the potential of the English language. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer emerges as one of the greatest poets of Europe. His work is characterized by rare breadth and variety and he delves so deep into human nature that its universality can only be compared with Shakespeare’s works.

Speaking at the event will be: Christina Kkona (Assistant Professor, Hellenic American University / Hellenic American College), Dimosthenis Kordopatis (translator of the book) and Vassilis Manoussakis (Adjunct Professor, Hellenic American University / Hellenic American College).

During the event, an excerpt from BBC4’s documentary series "The beauty of books" featuring the work of Geoffrey Chaucer, will be screened, courtesy of the Vouli Channel.
