Concert with Greek serenades and songs by the City of Athens Choir as part of the tribute series of events about the historic district of Neapolis...

Greek serenades by the City of Athens Choir at the Hellenic American Union

As part of the celebrations for the 60 years anniversary of the Hellenic American Union and the exhibition “#NeapolisAthens: both now and then”, the City of Athens Choir presents a concert with Greek serenades and songs of “old” Athens featuring Frixos Mortzos at the piano and conducted by Stavros Beris.

Serenades were “imported” to Athens in 1864, when the Ionian Islands were united with Greece. At Plaka, Psirri and especially at Neapolis this “new” music genre was developed, enriched with classical elements and contributed to the founding of musical conservatories and schools at the area.

The event is organized in cooperation with the Bachelor of Music Program (BM) of Hellenic American College (HAEC) and The City of Athens Culture, Youth and Sports Organization (OPANDA).
