Adventures In Moominvalley
The main exhibition of Comicdom Con Athens 2018 at the Hellenic American Union features the beloved Moomins…

An exhibition featuring works by the Finnish creator Tove Jansson (1914-2001), is presented for the first time to the Greek audience at the Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas Gallery of the Hellenic American Union. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Moomin Characters ltd. as part of Comicdom Con Athens 2018.
Tove Jansson was a writer and an artist of international caliber who succeeded to write for both children and adults at the same time. As the creator of the magical world of Moomins, she is the most widely read Finnish author abroad as her comic books have been translated into more than fifty languages. The first Moomin story with Moomintroll as the protagonist was published in Sweden in 1945, and since Jansson wrote and drew for many years the adventures in Moominvalley. As it was common practice in the 50’s, the original comic’s pages were destroyed after their publication. So, it was a great joy when, after Jansson’s passing, complete sketches of these comics where discovered.
The exhibition features sketches and pages, many of which haven’t been previously presented, from the comic strip “Moomin goes Wild West” published for the first time in 1957.
