Poetic encounters: “Words (can) do it”

Apr 25, 2018

Event dedicated to the poetry of Andreas Kalvos…

Andreas Kalvos (drawing by Odysseas Elytis, 1991)

Andreas Kalvos (1792-1869) became known in Greece 20 years after his death, in 1889, following Palamas' famous lecture on his poetry. Although he has written just a few more than 20 poems - his famous Odes -, he is considered one of the founders of Modern Greek poetry along with his contemporary, Dionysios Solomos.

For the concluding event of this year’s series of poetic encounters, fourteen poets will read a poem of their own, especially written for the event, “in response” to Kalvos' work and discuss about the source of their inspiration.

Participating poets include: Orfeas Apergis, Anna Griva, Lenia Safiropoulou, Panayotis Ioannidis, Lena Kallergi, Dimitra Kotoula, Alekos Lountzis, Pavlina Marvin, Olga Papakosta, Alexandra Plastira, Christos Siorikis, Yorgos Spanos, Nandy Hatzigeorgiou and Marios Hatziprokopiou.
